Secondary Phase Career Education Programme

It has been a very busy week for Washwood Heath Academies Career Education Program this week.  We have delivered "My Personal Finance Skills" to all of Year 7, Year 8, Year 9 and Year 10. The My Personal Finance Skills program offered students a series of workshops which covered elements of financial education relevant to students' life stage. Themes included:

  • What is meant by Personal Finance

  • Building a budget

  • Why managing your money matters

  • Understanding debit & credit.

In addition to this Year 9 and Year 8 students completed a STEM activity "The Prosthetic Hands Workshop". This was unique experience for our students, it was designed to fuel their passion for science, technology, engineering and maths and get them thinking about a career in engineering.

Finally, over 290 Year 11 students had the opportunity for individual interview experiences. Students experienced a real interview by one of our 38 business professional volunteers, who gave up their time to come into school to support Y11's. Students were asked real interview questions and then received valuable feedback from the interviewer on what they did well and where to make improvement.

This event is part of WHA ongoing careers guidance programme to help students gain skills for work and to understand more about the recruitment processes companies use.

We would like to thank our business volunteers for supporting the day, as without them this could not have gone ahead. So a great big shout out to Severn Trent, Cadbury College, DWP and our Alumni, it was great see them all.

Feedback

Thank you for hosting us yesterday and just being the most hospitable school we work with in our region. Our staff really appreciate it, especially my team as we see hundreds of schools in the year and you always set the bar so high in your friendly and welcoming approach, it even rubs off on your pupils. What fantastic role models you are. Severn Trent
